Hosta 'Ulysses S. Grant' LARGE (26” high by 51” wide.) Leaf Detail: 14” long by 11” wide; blue-green; moderately corrugated and rippled; thick substance. Flowering: very pale lavender flowers on three to four-foot scapes in July. Comments: vase-shaped mound habit; rich blue foliage color; corrugation; rippling; thick substance; Peter Ruh seedling selection; best of Pete’s Presidential Series; anyone who sees this has to have it.

Hosta 'Vulcan' (H. Hansen/Shady Oaks Nursery, Reg. Pending) LARGE (20" high by 40" wide.) This sport of 'Captain Kirk' has creamy-white leaves with dark green margins. Golden-yellow streaks occur along the interior margins where the white and green overlap. 'Vulcan' has a vigorous growth rate for a white-centered hosta. Pale lavender flowers bloom in mid to late summer. Classy! Sun tolerant.

Leaf Detail: Gold margin 12 1/2” long by 8 1/2” wide; chartreuse in the center with a heavily rippled, 1” wide, yellow margin; slightly corrugated; better than average substance. Flowering: purple flowers in July on 30” scapes. Comments: variegated sport of ‘Squash Casserole’ from John Van Ostrand of Hawthorn Woods, IL; combines the rippled margins and vigor of its mother plant with a touch of variegation.

Hosta 'Wheee!' MEDIUM (18" high by 30" wide.) Extremely ruffled, cream colored margins extend from the tip of each green leaf all the way down the petiole to the crown. The leaves of this medium sized hosta are of excellent substance, making them slug resistant in the landscape. Light lavender flowers appear atop purple scapes in midsummer. Thick, pale chartreuse becoming ivory to bright yellow then fading to drab green late, widely and irregularly margined dark olive-green with celadon streaking, strongly veined, slightly dimpled, twisted, recurved at the tip. Hosta 'White Elephant' LARGE (20" high by 50" wide.) (Franks 2007) (Sport of ‘White Christmas’) This hosta is an exciting introduction. It may be the large, fast growing, white-centered hosta for which we all have been waiting. Large, bright white leaves with a narrow dark green margin have lighter green streaks sandwiched in between. Light lavender flowers in July. Appreciates morning sun and ample water.

Good substance, dark green with a blue cast, widely and irregularly margined pale yellow to cream with streaks jetting to the midrib, dimpled; edge flat to slightly folded, widely oval with a cuspidate tip. Site in good light to filtered shade for best colours. Wide leaf margin. Sun tolerant and slug resistant.

Good substance, chartreuse to old-gold, misted, streaked and striped cream and white, irregularly margined pure white, prominently veined; edge undulate, slightly folded to cupped, widely oval with a cuspidate tip. Site in morning sun with plenty of moisture. A colourful addition to the many sports of 'Sum and Substance.' Sun tolerant. Slug resistant.

Hosta 'Wishing Well' NEW 2013 (Don Dean) LARGE 23" high by 38" wide. This large hosta is prized for holding its beautiful blue color long into the season, even when planted in 2/3 day of sun. Its huge leaves emerge slowly, exhibiting a unique cupped, rippled, corrugated texture. They unfold slowly as they mature. Since they are of thick substance, the leaves are more slug resistant. This large hosta has a good growth rate compared to some other large blues. Near-white flowers begin to appear in midsummer and last into late summer.

Hosta 'Woodland Elf' DWARF (D. Dean 2005) - ('Little Wonder' X 'Popo') (2" high by 10" wide.) This cute, bright white-margined true mini has light green heart-shaped leaves and a very low habit that makes it the perfect trough plant. It has lavender flowers in June and a good growth rate.
