Our business is mainly retail in the Ottawa area. We will mail plants anywhere in Canada. We will ship Hostas and any other plants on our site but we do not ship our field grown plants, they are too large for the mail. I will take orders starting in April for shipment in early to mid June. The late ship date is for two reasons. One, we are too busy setting up our retail outlets for the season, which starts here in early May, and secondly because I have to wait and see what has wintered over successfully and to confirm all my inventory. Also the later ship date allows me to judge the growth rate of the plants to ensure that you will receive the best plants. Your order will not be confirmed until late April or early May. We carry a large stock and in the past have been able to fill our orders with no problems.

Newly arrived 3" pot
Overwintered hosta rootWintered over hostas are well rooted and have two to three years of growth. Newly arrived plants are potted up in March and April by us and are showing good growth by mid-June. The majority of our plants arrive as vernalized 3 inch pots with good root growth. Some plants arrive as bareroot and a minority as plugs. I will not ship anything that is too small without confirming this with you first.

Hosta Virus X In the past couple of years a virus known as Virus X has been on the increase in the hosta world and we want you to know we are being very proactive and taking the strongest measures to keep our stock clean. We only deal with suppliers who are doing constant testing of new and old plant material and exercising the utmost vigilance in an attempt to make sure we receive clean and healthy stock. 98% of our plants originated in tissue labs from Virus free plants. The virus makes the plant quite ugly and gives it a very blotchy appearance. These plants should be carefully destroyed. The virus is spread by a cut or a wound that allows the sap to leak from one plant to another often occurring when dividing a plant. Keeping knives and other garden tools clean will help considerably to keep from spreading the virus. Some of the mass outlets that turn thousands of inexpensive plants are showing heavy numbers of infected plants. We feel with education of the growers and the gardening community this problem will be eradicated in the near future. Should you need more information you can contact us or find much more information and photos at www.hostalibrary.org under Hosta Virus X.
