FERNS shade-part shade (good for cut flowers)

Ferns are valuable garden plants of great dependability and beauty, thriving in the shade and protection provided by trees. They perform best in a moist, well drained soil that is high in organic matter. Even the smallest garden can have a woodland feeling by planting a few ferns along with other shade loving perennials such as Hosta, Primula, Pulmonaria and Astilbes. It is a good idea to mulch deeply around your ferns with compost or leaf litter once a year. This will improve the soil, keep roots cool and help to retain moisture.

Grasses can be used in many ways for landscape design, combining well with almost any kind of plant. They are the perfect size to integrate into a perennial or mixed border design without becoming the centre of attention.
